Become a Small Business Talent Magnet

Think your small business can’t compete with big business for talented employees? Think again. Your local business has superpowers you probably aren’t even aware of. Learn how to utilize your strengths to become the business employees want to work for.

The Local Business Institute partnered with Local First La Plata in Durango, Colorado to create programs and training for local businesses under a grant from the State of Colorado’s Workforce Resilience Program. An initial needs assessment study identified two tracks of training small, local businesses needed—attracting and retaining employees, and marketing strategy.

We’re proud to announce the first of those two options, The Small Business Talent Magnet: Transforming Your Company into an Employee-First Powerhouse. The Small Business Talent Magnet is an interactive, on-demand course designed to help small business owners attract and retain top employees in the evolving post-pandemic landscape. The class offers a step-by-step guide to navigating the “new normal” by focusing on what modern employees truly value—including flexible work arrangements, strong company culture, team-oriented leadership, and effective cross-generational and cross-cultural communication.

Through a blend of video lessons, a customized guidebook, and a curated toolkit, you’ll learn actionable strategies to assess and enhance your organizational culture, implement leadership practices that foster high employee engagement, and develop clear policies for both in-office and remote teams. This training empowers small business leaders to transform their companies into employee-first powerhouses, equipped to meet the expectations of today’s workforce.
