LFC: We’re Now a Small Business Rising Partner. Here’s Why.

I’ve long been involved with advocacy for local business. From the local City Hall to the office of the US President, I’ve worked to express the interests of local business in governmental policy work. On the local front, this can be lonely work. I often told my IBA members that policy advocacy often involves sitting through a lot of very boring meetings where nothing much happens. But if you’re not in those meetings, you lack understanding of the nuances, players and views. You also aren’t there when something finally happens. Local advocacy taught me the value of our collective voice. We accomplished so much more with the strength of a thousand voices behind us.

The Local Business Institute has a voice too—your voice—and we want to represent you well on the national stage. This is why we are thrilled to have been voted a Partner at Small Business Rising.

Small Business Rising (SBR) is a coalition of independent business organizations representing more than 250,000 small businesses and urging elected leaders to break the power of monopolies and safeguard our right to compete and serve the needs of our communities. SBR is a grassroots initiative of ILSR to engage and involve organizations representing small businesses in advocacy and policy that benefits small, local businesses. SBR is unique because we are taking on concentrated corporate power that negatively impacts independent businesses with the goal of leveling the playing field. We are proud to be a Partner in this work.

So what does this mean for you? It means we’re fighting for your interests even when you can’t see us doing it. It means we’ll keep you informed about issues when they arise and actions you can take. It means we’re not alone in this and neither are you.

Join us through the LocalFirst Community and lend your voice to the strength of ours.
